When I Think of Research...

Over the past 8 weeks I learned the in depth process professionals endure to complete research studies in the early childhood education field.  I would consider myself an investigator versus a researcher. I am now knowledgeable of how to actually read and comprehend research studies. I still struggle with distinguishing the difference between independent and dependent variables. I refer back to the definition of dependent variables “a variable can be thought of as something that is subject to variation. In research, that which changes as a result of some influence (Lepuschitz, J.K. 2011)”.  I can clearly identify the extraneous variables in any research simulation, as they will influence the results of the study by affecting the main focus. I believe after taking this course I believe I will be able to develop a research design.

  1. Hello,
I am also able to comprehend research studies now and look at studies differently than i used to with more knowledge. I am sure once you are exposed to more research examples you would be able to distinguish between a dependent and independent variable.

  4. Hi Deondrea, I enjoyed reading your post. I've realized the importance of using the right tools as well as having the expertise when it comes to conducting research, in which this course as started me well on my way.

  5. Thank you for sharing your issue with independent and dependent variables as I have had this issue as well. Sometimes I think it's just that we over think about our variables. Good luck on the rest of your studies.

  6. Deondrea,
It has been a true pleasure having you in this course. You are very knowledgeable in your work and it has shown in your discussions and blog post. I too have learned quite a bit about research and the necessary steps it will take in doing research. I wish I had taken this course prior to some of the observations I did for previous courses because it would have helped me in the observations.

It has been a blessing and I look forward to conversing with you in future courses.
