Throughout the world one death out of every five deaths are
children with a water-borne disease caused by unclean water. The access to clean water around the world has
decreased but the crisis still exist in many poverty ridden countries one being
Haiti. Today in Haiti only 55.2 percent of people have access to healthy
drinking water. The challenge is the population income is equal to or less than
1 US dollar. Haiti faced an even greater challenge developing access to healthy
water dating back to 2010. The earthquakes destroyed the water wells and
affecting the water system leaving a treacherous process of repairs. Today
Haiti have been unsuccessful with repairing the wells which held the majority
healthy water supply.
The Water Project and
the Living Water International are organizations that have come to the aid of
Haiti assisting with building a clean water supply and the accessibility to
healthy water. With Haiti struggling in poverty clean water can aid them to breaking
the poverty cycle. The benefits of clean water helps children stay in school to
get the education necessary for jobs.
Farmers are able to grow crops to cure the hunger strike from the lack
of available sources. Lastly but most important clean water reduces the illness
in children and adults.

Deondrea,
ReplyDeleteHow sad that something we take for granted every day can be so scarce to others. Only 55% of the population has clean water was a shocking statistic to me, and made me wonder what the other 'half' are drinking.
I can see that the WATER PROJECT is a charitable organization trying to help Haiti. Has their government been able to do anything to help ensure drinking water in schools for children?
Zeina
None of the articles I read stated any facts about the government involvement in cleaning up the water supply
DeleteI found it very difficult for the government not to be involved. With clean water students will be able to attend school and the schools will be able to feed the student with food from the garden.
DeleteDeondrea,
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the information on the water in Haiti. It is unfortunate the amount of everyday tasks that are affected do to unsafe water. It very sad to hear so many people don't have access to clean drinking water. It really makes me realize how I take the fact that I have clean water for granted. I am a big water drinker, to the point where others have teased me about being a camel. I am big on encouraging my children and the children enrolled in my daycare to drink lots of water. I can't even imagine the impact that this has had on Haiti. I am glad that there are organizations that have come to help Haiti to restore their clean water supply.
I was devastated researching Haiti water supply conditions. The fact I waste faucet water I only drink bottled water.
